Library's Book Club

Beginning September 2022, the Library will be hosting our own book club each month. Titles will be chosen based on recommendations from participants, upcoming events/author visits, All Iowa Reads selections, etc. Join our Book Club group on the app "Book Clubs" for current titles, polls on meeting dates/times, check out everyone's current reads, and more! Use this link to register: https://bookclubs.com/clubs/5973099/join/3e0756/

Format will include 45 minute discussion of the book and 15 minutes for participants to share about others books they're loving right now! We understand everyone is busy, so a Zoom link will be sent out to all participants if this is easier for you to participate. We also understand that not every book is for every reader, so please don't feel as though you have to finish a book that isn't something you're interested in - you're more than welcome to come and listen to others discuss what they liked, or didn't like, about the book! And don't worry about if you missed a month or two due to other obligations - come whenever you can! We want this to be an environment where book lovers can talk books when it works for them!

CJPL Bigs & Littles Book Club

Our first meeting of CJPL Bigs & Littles will be November 2022. CJPL Bigs and Littles is a way for our young patrons to participate in a book club of their own. With their Bigs, Littles will read a book within the month's theme (picture book or juvenile fiction) and then attend book club, where readers can connect about the book through conversation and creativity. We will have an opportunity to talk about the books but also to try things from the book - each month will be different! It could be food, games, art, or an author visit! Make sure to check each meeting notice for a full rundown of activities. As with all our book clubs, you're welcome to attend even if you haven't finished the book! We want you to enjoy your time reading and interacting with the book together!

November's Theme: "The Nutcracker"

Book Club Alternatives

The library has Family Dinner Book Club kits, which include several books, recipes, and activity ideas around a particular theme so that families can host their own book clubs at home together.

Groups of friends are always welcome to use the library for their book clubs, including hosting book clubs in the library's meeting rooms or requesting books via Interlibrary Loan. For book club requests, please allow at least 2 weeks to receive titles. The person making the request will be notified of the book club book arrivals and would need to let the remainder of the book club know to pick the book up from the library.

Also, please check out our reading suggestions page, where you can find all sorts of reading challenges to expand your book choices and reading this year, in lieu of a traditional book club!
